January

  • La Toma in Granada, celebrates the capture of the city in 1492.
  • Los Reyes in entire Spain is a children's party which is very similar to Saint Nicolas celebrations in parts of Europe.
  • San Anton in and around Madrid celebrates the benediction of animals.

February
  • Carnaval in Cadiz has processions, performances and choirs.

March
  • Fallas in Valencia includes musical bands, flower offerings to the virgin, fireworks and papier-mâché figures.

April
  • Semana Santa has processions all over Spain during Easter. In Córdoba youth clubs and fraternities hold deafening drum competitions wearing red costumes, helmets and wigs. In Sevilla more than 50 fraternities walk through the streets during the ceremony to commemorate the carrying of the cross by Jesus Christ.
  • On the last Sunday of April, a popular procession through the Sierra Morena attracts 100-thousands Spanish pilgrims.
May
  • 20 - 28 may, Sevilla celebrates another Feria (annual market). This is a glorious festival with tents, music Sevillianas, tapas and drinks. Most of these 'casetas' are only accessible to family and friends of the fraternities of Sevilla.

  • In early May, during the Concurso de Cruces in Córdoba and Granada, big flower covered crosses are the centre of attraction in this traditional competition between fraternities and communities.
  • In the first half of May, for the Concursos de Patios in Córdoba, dozens of patios in the historical heart of the city and the district of San Basilio are transformed in breathtaking compositions of flowers and colour.
  • In the end of May, the Feria in Córdoba is the annual fair with many Sevillianas dancing and tapas and wine.
  • At the National Flamenco competition in Córdoba you can have a brilliant chance to see the most talented Flamenco artists of Spain.
  • International theatre festival in Teatro Manuel de la Fallas in Granada.

June
  • Pentocostés, a pilgrimage to El Rocio when millions of pilgrims honour the Virgin.
  • International music and dance festival in the Alhambra in Granada.

July
  • International music and dance festival in the Alhambra in Granada.
  • At Virgen de la Carmen, Spain honours the patroness of the seafarers. The Virgen de la Carmen will be carried by boat from Alicante, Gran Canaria to Barbate.

August
  • Summer holidays in Spain with lots of fire-works and ferias in places near the coast (Alicante, Barbate, Konil de la Frontera, Malaga, Cadiz, Vizcaya, Barcelona, Zaragoza).

September
  • Once every two years Sevilla has its famous Flamenco festival 'Bienal de Flamenco'. This is a great opportunity for the lover of professional Flamenco (2006).
